Schools are starting to embrace the new Primary Framework for Literacy, and ICT forms a significant part of the new guidance. The CLCs can support schools as they come to terms with this by offering quality Learning Opportunities for pupils, and guidance and Professional Development for teachers. All activities link with specific year groups and involve collaboration with school practitioners.

This opportunity links with Poetry - Unit 2 of the Year 6 framework. Children will produce a multimodal text in the form of a podcast using poetry written in school.

They will be given the opportunity to collect images from the web and combine them with narration, sound effects and music to compile their podcast.

Who can take part in this opportunity?	This learning activity is suitable for approximately 30 pupils. Your pupils will be split into small groups throughout the centre to ensure quality voice recording. As a result, schools will need to ensure adequate adult support.
When is this opportunity available?	Throughout the academic year 2008 – 2009 Book early to avoid disappointment.
Duration of the opportunity	This Opportunity takes a full day to complete.
Where will your class work?	St Helens City Learning Centre, Rainhill.
Expectations of the class teacher and preparations prior to your visit	The class teacher will have already introduced this topic to their pupils at school, and exposed them to a variety of examples from this genre. It is important that children come with written work to use in this activity.
Expectations of the Class teacher whilst at the CLC	Teaching and support staff will be expected to support their pupils as they work throughout the CLC using ICT and lead any additional Literacy elements of this unit.
How will CLC staff support this activity?	CLC staff will lead the ICT elements throughout the day for both pupils and support staff. All rooms booked will be made ready for your class.
Resources required	Your students will need to bring their completed poetry to provide a stimulus for these activities.
Refreshments	Schools need to ensure that pupils bring a packed lunch and drinks (water only) with them if the learning activity runs over lunch time.
Travel Costs	The CLC will contribute £45 towards the cost of travel that you book through a competitively priced coach company.
