Traditional Stories
Learning Opportunity Outline Schools
are starting to embrace the new Primary Framework for Literacy, and ICT
forms a significant part of the new guidance.
The CLCs can support schools as they come to terms with this by offering
quality Learning Opportunities for pupils, and guidance and Professional
Development for teachers.
All activities link with specific year groups and involve collaboration
with school practitioners.
This opportunity links with Narrative - Unit 2 of the Year 2 framework.
As part of this unit, children are required to produce a multimodal text
that combines images, text and sound to convey meaning.
During their visit to the CLC, children will work in pairs or small groups
to record a podcast alternative version of Little Red Riding Hood’
using the suggested texts, 'Little Red Riding Hood and the Vegetarian
Wolf', or, 'The True Story of Little Red Riding Hood' as a stimulus.
The CLC activity will be based upon written work carried out
at school.

part in this opportunity? |
This learning activity is suitable for approximately
30 pupils, providing adequate adult support accompany the children
on their visit. Pupils will be split into small groups throughout
the centre to ensure quality voice recording. |

of the class teacher and preparations prior to your visit |
The class teacher will have already introduced this
Literacy topic to their pupils at school, and have prepared with the
children a text that can be used as a stimulus for podcasting. |

of the Class teacher whilst at the CLC |
Teaching and support staff will be expected to support
their pupils as they work throughout the CLC using ICT and lead any
additional Literacy elements of this unit. |

| How will CLC
staff support this activity? |
CLC staff will lead the ICT elements throughout the
day for both pupils and support staff. All zones booked will be made
ready for your class. |

| Resources required |
Your students will need to bring with them written
work to provide a stimulus for their activities at the CLC. |

| Refreshments
|
Schools need to ensure that pupils bring a packed lunch
and drinks (water only) with them if the learning activity runs over
lunch time. |

The CLC will contribute half of the travel cost that you book through a competitively priced coach company. |
