Schools are starting to embrace the new Primary Framework for Literacy, and ICT forms a significant part of the new guidance. The CLCs can support schools as they come to terms with this by offering quality Learning Opportunities for pupils, and guidance and Professional Development for teachers. All activities link with specific year groups and involve collaboration with school practitioners.

This opportunity links with Non-Fiction - Unit 2 of the Year 6 framework. Children will work in small groups as part of a news team. Each child allocated a different role (presenter, script-writer, interviewer, interviewee, editor, etc)
They will record a live edition of their broadcast in the form of a podcast (with sound, jingles etc.) and these can be played and evaluated at the end of the day.

Alternatively, this could be produced as a TV news bulletin with mock news studio at Haydock and using film equipment.

Who can take part in this opportunity?	Year 6 pupils Please note: This learning activity is suitable for approximately 30 pupils, but schools will need to ensure adequate adult support to support group work.
When is this opportunity available?	Throughout the academic year 2007 – 2008 Book early to avoid disappointment.
When is this day available?	The day will run between 9:30 and 14:30.
Where will your class work?	St Helens City Learning Centre, Rainhill in LZ2, LZ3, CZ2 and CZ3.
What skills will the class-teacher need?
Refreshments	Schools need to ensure that pupils bring a packed lunch and drinks (water only) with them if the learning activity runs over lunch time.
Travel Costs	The CLC will 'Match Fund' your school's coach travel.
