Opportunity at St Helens City Learning Centres
Learning Opportunity Title:
Radion News Day
Learning Opportunity Outline Schools
are starting to embrace the new Primary Framework for Literacy, and ICT
forms a significant part of the new guidance. The CLCs can support schools
as they come to terms with this by offering quality Learning Opportunities
for pupils, and guidance and Professional Development for teachers. All
activities link with specific year groups and involve collaboration with
school practitioners.
This opportunity links with Non-Fiction - Unit 2 of the Year 6 framework.
Children will work in small groups as part of a news team. Each child
allocated a different role (presenter, script-writer, interviewer, interviewee,
editor, etc)
They will record a live edition of their broadcast in the form of a podcast
(with sound, jingles etc.) and these can be played and evaluated at the
end of the day.
Alternatively, this could be produced as a TV news bulletin with mock
news studio at Haydock and using film equipment.
