Schools are starting to embrace the new Primary Framework for Literacy, and ICT forms a significant part of the new guidance. The CLCs can support schools as they come to terms with this by offering quality Learning Opportunities for pupils, and guidance and Professional Development for teachers. All activities link with specific year groups and involve collaboration with school practitioners.

This opportunity links with Non Fiction - Unit 4 of the Year 4 framework. As part of this unit, children will have explored a range of persuasive texts.

During their visit to the CLC, pupils will examine existing film trailers and film posters that use persuasive language and work collaboratively to produce their own persuasive voice over text for a film trailer.

Who can take part in this opportunity?	This learning activity is suitable for approximately 30 pupils, providing adequate adult support accompany the children on their visit. Pupils will be split into small groups throughout the centre to ensure quality voice recording.
When is this opportunity available?	Throughout the academic year 2007 – 2008 Book early to avoid disappointment.
Duration of the opportunity	This Opportunity takes a full day to complete.
Where will your class work?	St Helens City Learning Centre, Rainhill.
Expectations of the class teacher and preparations prior to your visit	The class teacher will have already worked extensively on this unit in school, and all pupils will have explored a range of persuasive texts, including posters and trailers for films.
Expectations of the Class teacher whilst at the CLC	The class teacher will be expected to model the writing process of a 'voice over' for a film trailer including all the persuasive devices discussed at school. Teaching and support staff will be expected to support their pupils as they work throughout the CLC using ICT and lead any additional Literacy elements of this unit.
How will CLC staff support this activity?	CLC staff will lead the ICT elements throughout the day for both pupils and support staff. All zones booked will be made ready for your class.
Resources required	None.
Refreshments	Schools need to ensure that pupils bring a packed lunch and drinks (water only) with them if the learning activity runs over lunch time.
Travel Costs	The CLC will contribute half of the travel cost that you book through a competitively priced coach company.
